Stair Tread Refinishing

Restore the Hardwood Steps That Connect Your Home

Refinish worn stair treads and coordinate their color and sheen with nearby hardwood floors, landings, and rail details.

Detailed Hardwood Work

Stairs Need a Different Kind of Attention

Treads receive concentrated wear and require careful sanding along edges, nosing, walls, and railing components.

We evaluate the tread condition, existing coatings, access, and surrounding floors before establishing the scope. Carl Bohlmeyer Floor Sanding refinishes hardwood treads; painting or finishing vertical risers is not included unless explicitly stated.

What This Service Includes

A Plan for the Floor and the Space

Tread Restoration

Remove worn coatings and surface damage from accessible hardwood tread areas.

Coordinated Color

Select a natural or stained result that works with connected flooring and trim.

Clear Boundaries

We identify what can be reached safely and distinguish tread work from riser painting.

What to Expect

Your Staircase May Be Temporarily Inaccessible

Because stairs often provide the only path between floors, access planning is essential. We will explain when the staircase cannot be used and when careful traffic may resume.

Treads are included; riser painting is not standard scope

Deep damage or inaccessible edges may remain visible

Pets and foot traffic must stay off during finishing

Common Questions

Know Before Work Begins

Every floor and property is different. Your in-home estimate is where we confirm the scope and set project-specific expectations.

  • Do you refinish stair risers?

We refinish hardwood stair treads. Vertical riser painting or finishing is excluded unless it is specifically listed in the estimate.

  • Can stairs match the floor exactly?

We can coordinate them, but wood species, age, grain, and previous coatings can cause visible differences.

  • Can we use the stairs during the project?

Not during key sanding and finishing periods. We will help plan around the required access restrictions.
